Studio space

I'm finding my new studio space actually quite functional despite the fact that it's a 1/4 of the size of my old studio space. I've managed to replace most of the furniture with smaller more efficient pieces that are still antique and make me feel good when I look at them.
Having gone to IKEA about a million times this summer, I'm loving the white wall shelves that are only 3" in depth, but are strong enough to hold and display many of my finished paintings.
And a wonderful clean round mirror also from IKEA also adds a modern clean touch and makes my studio space look and feel spacious.

The dog and the deer clay figurines

Dog and deer/sheep clay figurines, 2015

I experimented with a few animal/people ideas with the clay and came up with some hybrid animals that can be interpreted as either dog/rabbit or deer/sheep. Depends on how you see them.
The dog with the red suspender is available in my ETSY shop and the deer/sheep figurine is already spoken daughter Greta took it for her personal collection. Sometimes it's good to have connections in the art world. That way you get first pick.

Super Girl and Panda Girl

Panda Girl with Wings and Super Girl, clay figurines 2015

Two more new sculptures from the last batch that I made. These are currently available in my ETSY shop. If they're still around in September, they are headed to the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. So if you love these gals, don't wait too long to buy them!

RUBY Sculptures

RUBY series clay figurines, 2015

Looking at this photo I see four quite distinct personalities. It's hard to explain how each clay figurine just kind of magically transforms itself from a clump of clay to a brightly coloured individual. I feel like a messenger rather than the creator when I make these figurines. Sounding a little religious there for a Sunday to another road trip today. Stay cool on this very hot day.

Circus girls

Circus Girl 6 and 7, clay figurines,  2015

The latest batch of my clay figurines will be listed on my ETSY shop over the next week or so. They'll be a second batch later on with swimmers.
I'm hoping that there's time left to have enough variety to show at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition in September.
Let's all cross our fingers, yes?

New clay figurines

New clay figurines

Doesn't seem like I've been very active with my ETSY shop or this blog lately with me not posting any new work.
But I've had to take a step back from being "connected" to the world and step back into my own world/studio.
I've got a serious deadline looming in front of me with the TORONTO OUTDOOR ART EXHIBITION coming up in mid-September.
Seems far away, but actually it's only 5 short weeks away and I've got to step up my game if I want to make an impression in the Toronto art scene. So it's time to get serious.

Everglowhandmade interview

My art studio space and work is featured today on everglowhandmade
Rachel from everglowhandmade writes a wonderful blog post and interview showcasing my work space, my artwork and my take on being an artist.
She regularly does interviews of current and contemporary artists. Go check it out!

It was mere coincidence that all the flowers on the front balcony are purple. Next year, I promise to expand my repertoire of flower choices.

Finally, my studio space is starting to feel just right.

My view from my studio of the front balcony. Always tempting to go outside and take a nap on the lounge chair.

I really did do some downsizing. I used to have 2 display cases. Now just one.
