Young Lady Holding Rosary c. 1609-10 by Rubens, acrylic painted canvas collaged onto painted wood panel,
(11" x 14"), 2015
So this "new painting" isn't really new. Anyone who's been following my work will recognize this pretty young lady as an historical portrait that was originally painted on a round canvas. The wood panel was once a flower still life painting. I had a vision and went ahead and cut out the historical portrait and collaged it onto the painted wood panel using the "marouflage" technique.
Personally, I think the final piece brings out the best of both paintings. It makes it modern, light and not so serious. I like it.
