Line quality

Untitled, acrylic, black ink on gessoed Stonehenge paper, 7.5" x 10", 2013

Augusto and the kids really like this portrait. I made it earlier this month. It has many layers of paint and when I applied the black ink lines, it all came together. I find my best work is when I combine my painting and drawing together. The line has to enhance the painting otherwise it will make everything look flat and fake looking. The quality of the line is important and takes practice, but when it works, it works.
