Halloween Synopsis

Here is a short resume of my Halloween 2012 in picture form.
Lorenzo with his FLASH mask (handmade by him).

My 1 year-old niece, Jenna, looking adorable.

Greta is "Fionna" from Adventure Time and Lorenzo is Flash (not Flash Gordon).

Things that go bump in the night.

Why do they always have to renovate the kitchen?

Detail of my latest work on kitchen paraphernalia. Full view of this work in my Etsy shop

So I, like many people, get a kick out of watching House Hunters. I especially love the International edition. You spend thirty minutes of your life watching strangers pick and choose property and you start talking to the screen saying how dumb they are not to have picked the house you liked best.
I just never understand why so many people think it ESSENTIAL to tear down and gut the kitchen. Whatever happened to cute vintage kitchens? How much counter space does one really need and how much food does one really plan on cooking? I don't need to look into the living room and stare at the couch while I cook. I think it's more important to make sure you're not cutting any fingertips with the kitchen knife and that the oil in the pan doesn't catch on fire.

Halloween Ambiguity

MASK Series # 1, acrylic on clay, 10/2012

So, it being Halloween this month and all, I thought it would be a good idea to try my hand at a disguised sculpture for a change. I've always liked black "batman" style masks. As to whether this is a boy or a girl, it's up for debate. I haven't figured it out myself. Let's just leave it alone. Sometimes some ambiguity in life can make things "so sexy" (as my teenage son likes to say about any of my art work that he thinks is good).

Frozen charlottes

This picture makes me think of frozen charlotte dolls in porcelain. Except these aren't porcelain and they certainly aren't dolls. I like to think of my sculptures as mini people with specific characteristics all there own. When I create them and they emerge from the clay under my fingers, its' quite amazing and a little scary. I'm not sure who is in control; the clay, the new character emerging from the clay or me.

Meeting of the minds

Looks like a convoluted chess game or Sunday in the park, but it's actually my latest batch of sculptures that I made this past weekend ( I worked really hard and many hours). Can't wait to see how they turn out in colour.

Faces with oil sticks

New faces using oil sticks and charcoal pencil. I haven't used oil sticks since my days when I was doing my nude paintings back in the 90s. It's a little different on a smaller scale like a 4" x 6" canvas, but it certainly has a vibrancy that acrylic paint just can't duplicate.

New sculptures fall 2012

SOLD ( all three)

More new sculptures that I made recently. My kids still think the pink doll is creepy. Tomorrow is a toss-up between oil painting or making more sculptures. Perhaps a bit of both.
