Drawing # 9 week-end series

This beautiful portrait was done late at night while listening to some good music. I used acrylic and black india ink on gessoed paper.

Drawing # 8 week-end series

This drawing is all impasto. Used only a palette knife to apply the gouache on the gessoed paper. At the very end, I used just a small brush to apply some diluted gouache to draw her arm.

Drawing # 7 week-end series

Drawing number 7 came right after 6 on Sunday afternoon. I used lots of black india ink over acrylic paint. Took a while to make because she wasn't turning out the way I expected her to. The black ink worked wonders. Love the blue sleeves and all the black stripes on her dress.

Drawing # 6 week-end series

This is drawing # 6. The first five drawings were completed on Saturday. This particular one was started on Sunday. It went in a completely different direction after the first five were very textured and thick. I used acrylic paints over graphite pencil. The acrylics were diluted giving a watercolour effect to the work. Still done on gessoed paper. I love her top.

Drawing # 5 week-end series

This is drawing # 5. It is based on a photo of Lorenzo, but doesn't look like him anymore. Again, I used a palette knife with acrylic paints on gessoed paper. It has a thick impasto effect. But you can only see the texture really well in person.

Drawing # 4 week-end series

This is the fourth drawing from the week-end series. I used a palette knife with acrylic paint to create an impasto effect on gessoed paper. Nice quiet little girl.

Drawing # 3 week-end series

This is drawing # 3. Don't ask me who this is. I have no idea. Used charcoal and gouache on gessoed paper. He has quite the stare. But it works.

Drawing # 2 week-end series

This started out as an adult couple inspired from a magazine clipping, but ended up looking like a pair of kids. Used charcoal to get better definition with the gouache on heavy paper.

Drawing # 1 from week-end series

Here's the first drawing / painting that I did last week-end. It is gouache paint on heavy drawing paper. Worked form a still life  of oranges, squash and sweet potatoes that were sitting on the kitchen table from Saturday morning's grocery shopping. It's been ages since I used gouache. Has a great chalky feel to it and colours mix really well together. Paintings always end up very primitive when using this medium with a palette knife instead of a brush.

More work in progress

Here's another sculpture that is in progress. I'm kinda procrastinating with this one. Not quite sure how to paint her up. She definitely needs some colour. Is she wearing a dress, a cape? I need to listen to my favourite songs and get some inspiration. Thing is not to think too much and just go with the flow. Art has a funny way of letting you know what it should be if you let it be. Otherwise, you just kill it. Yes, very yoga-inspired, I know.

10 drawings in a week-end

I've started a new series on paper. I will begin posting them shortly. Here is a preview. This is the latest drawing that I made just this evening. I've nicknamed him...my little vampire friend ( just joking).

Spring break day

This afternoon, I worked on 2 new sculptures. I'll try to paint them this week-end. I made two other new ones before today, but haven't taken photos of them yet. Will get everything in order this weekend.
